Waiting by the Stump

Esperar junto al tocón

2

Once, there was a farmer. Every day, from dawn to dusk, he worked in his fields.

3

One day, a rabbit ran too fast, crashed into a tree stump at the edge of a field, and died.

4

The farmer picked up the rabbit and went home happily. That night, he ate a good meal.

5

Because he had found a rabbit once, he no longer wanted to farm. From that day on, he sat beside the stump and waited every day.

6

But the rabbit never came again. The field filled with weeds, and he got nothing at all.

7

Relying only on luck cannot bring lasting success.

8

If you do not practise and only wait to win, that is 守株待兔. That trophy he wants — what must he do first?
