Rain · La lluvia

1

The Red Umbrella Girl asks: where does the water in the sky come from?

2

In the morning the sky is blue, without a single cloud. A little girl stands by the river, watching it flow slowly.

3

The sun comes out and warms the river. The water turns into an invisible vapour and drifts up into the sky.

4

The higher the vapour rises, the colder it gets. In the cold it becomes tiny droplets, and gathered together they make a cloud.

5

The clouds grow and thicken until they hide the sun. All at once the sky goes dark.

6

The wind comes, and the leaves rustle loudly. She looks up at the sky: rain is coming.

7

Because the droplets in the cloud are too many and too heavy, they fall. That is rain.

8

Rain falls on the hills, on the fields, on the rooftops. In the end it flows back into the river.

9

The rain stops and the sun comes out again. It warms the river again, and the water rises into the sky again…

10

So today's rain may well have been in the river yesterday. The rain you have seen — where did it all go in the end?
