Speak of the Devil

Hablando del rey de Roma

2

In the evening, Lèle and Grandma are eating dumplings. Lèle: Grandma, today you made Dad's favorite filling — too bad Dad isn't home.

3

Grandma: Yes — Dad is on a business trip. We don't know what day he'll be back. Lèle: I'll save ten dumplings for Dad!

No sabemos qué día regresa. Lèle: ¡Le guardo diez dumplings a papá!

4

Lèle: I wish Dad would come home right now… Ding-dong! The doorbell rings.

Lèle: Ojalá papá llegara ahorita… ¡Din-don! Suena el timbre.

5

Dad: I'm home! I came back a day early! Grandma: Ha ha — speak of the devil!

Papá: ¡Ya llegué! ¡Regresé un día antes! Abuela: ¡Ja, ja! ¡Hablando del rey de Roma!

6

Lèle: Grandma, who is Cáo Cāo? Grandma: Cáo Cāo was a man who lived long, long ago. When someone shows up just as you're talking about them, we say "speak of Cáo Cāo, and Cáo Cāo arrives".
