Everyone Makes Mistakes

Errar es de humanos

Oh no! I broke the sprinkler head! The mower wheel ran over it. Water is spraying everywhere!

¡Ay, no!

3

Should I tell her? What if she never calls me again? I need this job. My family in Mexico counts on the money I send home.

4

Mrs. Parker, I'm sorry. I hit a sprinkler head with the mower. It's my fault.

5

Oh! Thank you for telling me right away. Everyone makes mistakes. Last year I backed my car into my own mailbox. It happens to all of us.

¡Ah!

6

I'll fix it today. I'll buy a new one — you don't have to pay. I'll also check all the other sprinkler heads, to make sure they're working. That's very honest of you.

7

It's so hot. Have some lemonade. Thank you. There — it's fixed. Look! You did a beautiful job. The water goes right where it should.

Hace mucho calor. Tómese una limonada. Gracias. Listo, ya quedó. ¡Mire! Quedó muy bien. El agua cae justo donde debe.

My neighbor needs a gardener. I gave her your number — I told her you're honest. Really? Thank you so much! She has a big lemon tree and lots of roses. She'll call you this week.

I was so scared. But she said: everyone makes mistakes. My father used to say it, too: Errar es de humanos. Chinese says it too: 谁都会犯错 — everyone makes mistakes. The most important thing is: you told the truth right away. Now I have two clients on the same street!

En chino también decimos: 谁都会犯错, todos cometemos errores.

Three languages, the same meaning: Chinese says "谁都会犯错" — everyone makes mistakes. English says "Everyone makes mistakes." Spanish says "Errar es de humanos" — to err is human. If you make a mistake at work: say so right away, say you're sorry, and say how you'll fix it. Hiding it makes it worse. Most people respect honesty.
