Too Good to Be True

Un trabajo demasiado bueno

2

Work from home, forty dollars an hour. No experience, no interview needed. Forty dollars an hour? That's twice what I make now!

3

Congratulations, you're hired! We've mailed you a check for three thousand dollars. Keep five hundred for yourself, and send the other two thousand five hundred to our supplier to buy your computer.

4

I found a work-from-home job! Forty dollars an hour! They hired you without an interview? They send you money first, then ask you to send money out? This job is too good. Too good to be true.

¡Encontré un trabajo desde casa! ¡Cuarenta dólares la hora! ¿Te contrataron sin entrevista? ¿Primero te mandan dinero y luego te piden que mandes dinero? Este trabajo es demasiado bueno. Demasiado bueno para ser verdad.

5

I'd like to deposit this check. Can I use the money today? The money might show up in your account tomorrow. But it takes a week or two to find out if the check is real.

6

But the company says I have to send the money to the supplier today. If the check is fake, you'll have to pay the bank back for any money you send out. Don't send anything yet.

Todavía no mande nada.

7

Send the money now! If you don't send it today, you lose the job! The more they rush me, the more I need to stop. I'm not sending it.

8

Hello, this is the bank. The check you deposited last week is fake. Good thing I didn't send out a single dollar!

9

If I had sent out that twenty-five hundred, I'd have had to pay it back to the bank myself. That's two months of my rent! A real job interviews you first. It doesn't send you money first. A job that's too good is often fake.

No te manda dinero primero.

10

Scammers advertise jobs that are "work from home, high pay, no interview." They mail you a check first, then ask you to send part of the money out, buy gift cards, or receive packages and ship them on. Money showing up in your account doesn't mean the check is real. If the check is fake, you have to pay back any money you sent. A real job never sends you money first. You can report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
