Preguntar el camino en China
2Me: Excuse me, sir! How do I get to the subway station? Dàye: The subway? It's not far.
Yo: ¡Disculpe, señor! ¿Cómo llego a la estación de metro? Dàye: ¿El metro? No está lejos.
3Dàye: Go straight east, and at the second intersection turn north. Me: East… which way is east?
Yo: Este… ¿y hacia dónde queda el este?
4Dàye: Ha ha — just go straight ahead! At the second intersection, turn left. Me: Got it. How long is the walk? Dàye: About ten minutes.
Dàye: ¡Ja, ja! ¡Pues recto! En el segundo cruce, a la izquierda. Yo: Entendido. ¿Cuánto se tarda caminando? Dàye: Unos diez minutos.
5Dàye: See that traffic light? Go past it, walk a little more, and you're there. Me: Thank you, sir! Dàye: You're welcome!
6Me: Straight ahead… first intersection… second intersection, turn left.
Yo: Recto… primer cruce… segundo cruce, a la izquierda.
7Me: Hi, excuse me — where is the subway station? Passer-by: Just up ahead, next to the bank.
8Me: I see it! Thank you! Passer-by: No problem!
Yo: ¡Ya lo veo! ¡Gracias! Transeúnte: ¡De nada!
9Me: The subway station really wasn't far — just ten minutes.
10Good to know: when people in Beijing give directions, they often say "go east" or "turn north" rather than left and right. When asking the way, you can call an older man "dàye" and an older woman "āyí".
