Pharmacist: Hello — what seems to be the trouble? Me: I have a sore throat, and a bit of a cough.

Farmacéutica: Buenas, ¿qué le pasa? Yo: Me duele la garganta y tengo un poco de tos.

3

Pharmacist: Do you have a fever? Me: No fever. My throat has been sore since yesterday.

Farmacéutica: ¿Tiene fiebre? Yo: No tengo fiebre. Me duele la garganta desde ayer.

4

Pharmacist: Are you allergic to any medicine? Me: I'm allergic to penicillin.

Farmacéutica: ¿Es alérgico a algún medicamento? Yo: Soy alérgico a la penicilina.

5

Pharmacist: Then take this one — it has no penicillin in it. Me: How do I take this medicine?

Farmacéutica: Entonces tome esta; no lleva penicilina. Yo: ¿Cómo se toma esta medicina?

6

Pharmacist: Three times a day, two tablets each time, after meals. Me: Three times a day, two tablets each time, after meals. OK, got it.

Farmacéutica: Tres veces al día, dos pastillas cada vez, después de comer. Yo: Tres veces al día, dos pastillas cada vez, después de comer. Bien, ya me acordé.

7

Pharmacist: Drink plenty of hot water, and get to bed early. Me: All right, thank you.

Farmacéutica: Tome mucha agua caliente y descanse temprano. Yo: Muy bien, gracias.

8

Me: How much is it altogether? Pharmacist: Thirty-two yuan altogether. Scan or cash? Me: Scan.

Yo: ¿Cuánto es en total? Farmacéutica: Treinta y dos yuanes en total. ¿Con código o en efectivo? Yo: Con código.

9

Pharmacist: If you're not better in three days, go see a doctor at the hospital. Me: OK — if I'm not better in three days, I'll go to the hospital. Thanks!

Farmacéutica: Si en tres días no mejora, vaya al hospital. Yo: Bien, si en tres días no mejoro, voy al hospital. ¡Gracias!

Good to know: Chinese pharmacies usually have a pharmacist on duty. For minor illnesses, you can ask at a pharmacy first. When you're sick, the thing Chinese people say most is: "Drink more hot water!"

Dato útil: en China, las farmacias suelen tener un farmacéutico. Para algo leve, puede preguntar primero en la farmacia. Cuando uno se enferma, lo que más dicen los chinos es: «¡Tome mucha agua caliente!»
