Sacar una tarjeta SIM

2

Clerk: Hello, what can I help you with today? Me: Hi, I'd like to get a SIM card.

Empleado: Buenas, ¿qué trámite desea hacer? Yo: Hola, quiero sacar una tarjeta SIM.

3

Clerk: Sure. May I see your passport? Me: Here you go, this is my passport.

Empleado: Claro. ¿Me permite su pasaporte? Yo: Aquí tiene, este es mi pasaporte.

4

Clerk: What kind of plan would you like? Me: What does "tàocān" mean? Clerk: A plan is your calls and data for each month.

5

Clerk: This plan is 59 yuan a month, with 30 GB of data. Me: Is 30 GB of data enough? Clerk: It's enough for most people.

6

Me: OK, I'll take this plan. Can I choose my own number? Clerk: Yes, have a look at these numbers.

Yo: Bien, quiero este plan. ¿Puedo elegir el número? Empleado: Sí, mire estos números.

7

Me: I don't want any fours — I hear four is unlucky. I want a number with eights. Clerk: Ha ha, you really know China! This number has three eights.

8

Clerk: Please sign here, and then we'll take a photo. Me: OK — sign, then a photo.

9

Clerk: All done — the SIM card is in. Try making a call. Me: Hello? The call went through! Thank you!

Empleado: Listo, ya está puesta la tarjeta. Pruebe a hacer una llamada. Yo: ¿Bueno? ¡Ya funciona! ¡Gracias!

Good to know: to get a SIM card in China you must bring your passport — every number is registered under your real name. Many Chinese people love 8 and avoid 4: "eight" (bā) sounds like "prosper" (fā), and "four" (sì) sounds like "death" (sǐ).
