Las apariencias engañan

2

A new neighbor has moved in downstairs. He's very tall, with a big beard, and there's a dragon drawn on his arm. Lèle: Grandma, he looks so fierce! I'm a little scared.

3

The new neighbor also has a big black dog. Lèle: That dog is so big — it must bite!

4

One day, Lèle's kite gets stuck in a tree. He can't reach it, and he's so upset he's about to cry.

5

The bearded man walks over, reaches up, and takes the kite right down. Uncle: Cotton Candy, sit! Lèle: Thank you! Its name is… Cotton Candy?

6

Uncle: That's right! It loves it when kids rub its tummy. Lèle: Cotton Candy, you're so soft!

7

The next day, the bearded man brings over a plate of little panda buns. It turns out he's a baker! Grandma: You see? You can't judge people by their looks — or dogs either!

8

All three languages have a saying that means much the same: Don't judge a book by its cover.

9

Chinese talks about people: you can't judge someone just by how they look. English talks about books: don't judge a book just by its cover. Spanish says: looks can fool you.

10

Someone who looks fierce may be very gentle. When you make friends, don't just go by looks!
