Mom, what's wrong? I have a fever, and my head hurts a lot. Are you still going to work today?

A hundred and one degrees… I can't go to work. I need to call my supervisor and call in sick.

Good to know: if you're too sick to work, tell your supervisor before your shift starts. Say what's wrong and when you think you can come back. In California, most workers get at least five paid sick days a year. You can also use sick leave when your child is sick.
