The Kids Had a Fight

Los niños se pelearon

2

Why are you so quiet today? Leo said he won't play with me anymore.

3

What happened? Take your time. At recess we both wanted to be goalie. He pushed me, so I said he was a bad guy.

4

Pushing you wasn't okay. But calling him a bad guy wasn't okay, either. I know… I still want to be his best friend.

Empujarte no estuvo bien.

5

Hi, Mike, this is Diego's mom. The boys had a little trouble at school today. Did you hear about it? Yes, I heard. Leo cried all evening. I was just about to call you.

6

I'm not calling to blame Leo. Both boys made mistakes. Thanks for saying that. Let's take them to the park tomorrow afternoon and let them talk it out.

7

I'm sorry. I shouldn't have pushed you. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have called you a bad guy. Let's take turns being goalie! You go first.

Perdón. No debí empujarte. Perdón. No debí decirte que eres malo. ¡Hay que turnarnos de portero! Tú primero.

8

Kids fight fast, and they make up fast. If only grown-ups were like that, too.

9

Mom, Leo and I are best friends again! Fighting isn't the scary part. Being able to say "I'm sorry" — that's real strength.

10

Good to know: when kids fight, listen to your child first, and think about what the other child might say. If you call the other parent, stay calm. You can say, "I wanted to let you know…" If a child gets hurt, or the same thing keeps happening, tell the teacher.
