Oh no, the sink is leaking underneath! There's water all over the floor! Quick, get a bucket. I'll call the apartment manager.

Oak Garden Apartments, this is Mrs. Wilson. Hi, this is María López in apartment 2B. The pipe under my kitchen sink is leaking.

4

Oh no. Is it a lot of water? It's dripping fast. I put a bucket under it. Good. There's a little handle under the sink. Can you turn off the water?

Ay no. ¿Es mucha agua? Gotea rápido. Puse una cubeta abajo. Muy bien. Hay una manijita debajo del fregadero. ¿Puede cerrar el agua?

5

Okay… I turned it. The water stopped! Great job.

Listo… la giré. ¡Ya no gotea! Muy bien hecho.

6

When can someone come to fix it? Tony, our maintenance man, can come tomorrow between nine and twelve. Will someone be home? Yes, I'll be home. Nine to twelve. Could you send me a text to confirm?

7

Sure. I'll text you right now. Got it. Thank you!

Claro, se lo mando ahorita. Ya me llegó. ¡Gracias!

8

It was a loose pipe. All fixed! Thank you so much! Can I turn the water back on? Yes, go ahead.

Era un tubo flojo. ¡Ya quedó! ¡Muchas gracias! ¿Ya puedo abrir el agua? Sí, ábrala.

9

Mom, you fixed it with one phone call! I didn't fix it. But I knew who to call and what to say.

¡Mamá, lo arreglaste con una llamada! No lo arreglé yo. Pero sabía a quién llamar y qué decir.

Good to know: when something breaks, call or text the manager or landlord. Say your name, your apartment number, what's broken, and since when. In California, landlords must fix problems like leaks, no heat, or no hot water. Keep the texts or emails so you have a record.
