A new Medi-Cal rule: I have to report eighty hours of work a month, or show that I'm exempt. What does "exempt" mean? It means some people don't have to report.

Hice dumplings. Justo le traía unos a Diego.

You go. I'll watch Diego. Really? Thank you so much! You've helped me so much. This time it's my turn to help you.

Ve tú. Yo cuido a Diego. ¿De veras? ¡Muchísimas gracias! Tú me has ayudado tanto. Esta vez me toca a mí ayudarte.

Hi, how can I help you? I got this letter. I take care of my eight-year-old son. Can I be exempt?

Yes. Parents of children thirteen or younger don't have to report work hours. I'll add it to your file. Do I need to bring any proof? We may ask for his birth certificate. If you get a letter, answer it before the date.

Could I have a paper that shows what I did today? Of course. Keep it somewhere safe.

Claro.

Somos vecinas. Los vecinos nos ayudamos.

Good to know: starting in 2027, many adults ages 19 to 64 on Medicaid must report 80 hours a month of work, school, training, or volunteering — or show that they are exempt. People who may be exempt include parents of young children (in California, 13 or younger), people who are pregnant, and people with a disability or serious illness. Ask for a paper showing what you did, and keep it. Rules are different in each state — call your county office to check.
