Moving the Mountains

Mover las montañas

很久很久以前，有个老人，住在两座大山后面。

Long ago there was an old man who lived behind two great mountains.

Hace mucho tiempo vivía un anciano detrás de dos grandes montañas.

出门买一袋米，要走一整天。

Going out for one sack of rice took him all day.

Ir a comprar un saco de arroz le llevaba todo el día.

有一天他说：我们把山挖走吧。

One day he said: let us dig these mountains away.

Un día dijo: vamos a quitar estas montañas a fuerza de pala.

儿子愣住了，孙子笑了。

His son froze. His grandson laughed.

Su hijo se quedó helado. Su nieto se rió.

邻居笑得直不起腰：你都九十岁了！

A neighbour laughed till he could not stand straight: you are ninety years old!

Un vecino se rió tanto que no podía enderezarse: ¡pero si tienes noventa años!

这么大的山，挖到哪年？

Mountains this big — what year will you finish?

Unas montañas así de grandes, ¿en qué año vas a terminar?

老人不急：我挖不完，还有儿子。

The old man was in no hurry: if I do not finish, I have sons.

El anciano no tenía prisa: si yo no termino, tengo hijos.

儿子挖不完，还有孙子。

If they do not finish, there are grandsons.

Si ellos no terminan, hay nietos.

孙子还会有儿子。

And the grandsons will have sons.

Y los nietos tendrán hijos.

可是山不会再长高了。

But the mountain will never grow any taller.

Pero la montaña nunca va a crecer más.

第二天，儿子来了。

The next day his sons came.

Al día siguiente vinieron sus hijos.

第三天，孙子来了。

The day after, the grandsons came.

Al otro día vinieron los nietos.

后来，邻居家的孩子也来了。

Then the neighbour's children came too.

Después vinieron también los hijos del vecino.

一年又一年。

Year after year.

Año tras año.

后来，山真的不见了。

And in the end, the mountains were gone.

Y al final, las montañas ya no estaban.

路从家门口，直直地通了出去。

The road ran straight out from his own front door.

El camino salía recto desde su propia puerta.

一直做下去，再难的事也做得成。

Keep at it, and even the hardest thing gets done.

Si sigues adelante, hasta lo más difícil se logra.

爷爷种下这棵树的时候，它只有他的手那么高。

When Grandfather planted this tree, it was no taller than his hand.

Cuando el abuelo plantó este árbol, no era más alto que su mano.

现在，孙子在树下乘凉。

Now his grandson sits in its shade.

Ahora su nieto se sienta a su sombra.
