The Bamboo Already Finished Inside

从前有个画家，最喜欢画竹子。

Long ago there was a painter who loved to paint bamboo.

Hace mucho, había un pintor al que le encantaba pintar bambú.

他在窗外种了一片竹。

He planted a stand of bamboo outside his window.

Plantó un bambudal fuera de su ventana.

春天，竹笋一根一根冒出来。

In spring the shoots came up one after another.

En primavera los brotes iban saliendo uno tras otro.

夏天下过雨，竹叶亮得像洗过。

After the summer rain the leaves shone as if washed.

Tras la lluvia de verano las hojas brillaban como recién lavadas.

秋天起风，竹子弯下去，又直起来。

In autumn the wind bent the bamboo over, and it stood back up.

En otoño el viento doblaba el bambú, y este volvía a erguirse.

冬天下雪，雪压在竹叶上。

In winter the snow lay heavy on the leaves.

En invierno la nieve pesaba sobre las hojas.

他看了一年又一年。

Year after year, he watched.

Año tras año, él miraba.

后来有人请他画竹。

Later someone asked him to paint bamboo.

Más tarde alguien le pidió que pintara bambú.

他拿起笔，一口气画完，中间没有停。

He took up the brush and finished it in one breath, without once stopping.

Tomó el pincel y lo terminó de una sola vez, sin detenerse.

别人问：怎么画得这么快？

They asked him: how could you paint it so fast?

Le preguntaron: ¿cómo lo pintaste tan rápido?

他说：动笔以前，这丛竹子已经在我心里了。

He said: before the brush moved, this bamboo was already inside me.

Dijo: antes de mover el pincel, este bambú ya estaba dentro de mí.

动手以前心里就有了，做起来才不慌。

Have it whole inside you first, and the doing is not a scramble.

Tenlo entero por dentro primero, y hacerlo deja de ser un apuro.

出门以前，她在心里把要买的东西过了一遍。

Before going out she ran through what she needed, in her head.

Antes de salir repasó mentalmente lo que necesitaba.

到了店里，一样也没忘。

At the shop she forgot nothing.

En la tienda no se le olvidó nada.

你出门买东西，会先在心里过一遍吗？
